Easy green living tips

Want to go green but don't really know where to start? Well, just start by making your household a little more eco-friendly. Apply these simple tips and your house will be greener in no time.

Tips for a green kitchen:

Drink tap water instead of bottled water. For your water on the go, buy a stainless steel water bottle and leave those plastic bottles for what they are, a source of plastic waste.

Give up meat one day in the week, and have pasta or a vegetarian dish instead. To my own surprise, this has the same impact as driving a hybrid car, because raising livestock produces an immense amount of greenhouse gases.

Tips for green cleaning:

Switch from your generic store bought household cleaners to green cleaning. This will drastically reduce air pollution indoors and out. This way, harmful chemicals will have less of a chance to harm your health. Buy plant-based cleaners and check if they have a complete list of ingredients on the label.

Keep in mind that washing cold when possible is the greenest option when using the washing machine. Another great tip is washing at non-peak hours, between 6-8 am and 8-10 pm. Last tip, if possible, use a drying rack or clothes line, to dry your clothes instead of putting them in the dryer.

Take old clothes to a thrift shop or donate them to charity. They can then be worn by other people, which implies that another clothing item won't have to be produced, reducing your carbon footprint.

Easy, right? Just bare these tips in mind and stick with them. Clean house, green house!
